Australias leading stockpilers have defended themselves against criticism as a new wave of panic buying hits supermarkets.
Coles and Woolworths shoppers in Victoria have reported seeing rows of empty shelves at major Melbourne stores as cases of coronavirus continue to spike, forcing the state into Stage 3 lockdown.
But committed shoppers whove spent months and years building up mini supermarkets in their homes insist stockpiling is very different to panic buying.
In fact, many say their extensive grocery hauls mean they havent had to rush to supermarkets in recent months.
Sharing recent photos of their stockpiling on a popular Facebook group, the keen shoppers have defended their life choices.
I am not only a stockpiler, I also am a prepper, one woman wrote on Facebook.

No I dont have a tin foil hat, but I believe in having emergency supplies in case s*** hits the fan, case in point being this pandemic.
But I also prep in case of job loss, economic crisis or god forbid a war.
I stockpiled this over 18 months, taking advantage of sale, promo codes and any extra funds I had.
I am not the reason the stores have been emptied during this pandemic as I havent been to the store in three months!
So in fact there is more on the shelves as my family hasnt needed to purchase anything.
I have two 12-packs of toilet paper as I have used my stockpile and havent needed to purchase any toilet paper since January.

Once this pandemic is over I will again start stockpiling, until then Im respectfully staying out of shops and getting produce direct from a local farmer.
