The latest water-usage data by Prosper Australia shows more vacant properties, but this could just reflect the development cycle.
The pandemic that swept the world this year has slashed Australia’s population growth and dampened demand for new housing in the population-dependent cities of Melbourne and Sydney. But demand will pick up as the world adjusts to living with COVID-19 and as affordability concerns return, scrutiny of vacant homes is likely to increase.
Owners may not deliberately be holding properties empty, however.
