Hong Kong court sentences pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong to 13 months in prison
A Hong Kong court has sentenced prominent pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong to more than 13 and a half months in prison for his role in anti-government protests last year.
Key points:
- Mr Wong’s allies Agnes Chow and Ivan Lam have been sentenced to 10 and seven months, respectively
- The terms of all three were reduced after they pleaded guilty
- Mr Wong has been kept in isolation in prison
Mr Wong, 24, has been one of Hong Kong’s most prominent pro-democracy activists in the public unrest that has taken place during the past two years.
He pleaded guilty to organising and inciting an unlawful assembly near the city police headquarters during the height of the demonstrations in June 2019.
