Three Qld towns record hottest December days as heatwave peaks … for now

Dalby in the Darling Downs recorded a maximum of 42.1 degrees and smashed the previous record of 41.4 in 2013; Warwick in the Southern Downs hit 40.8 and beat the old record of 40.4 from 2013; while Applethorpe near the NSW border peaked at 37.5 and passed its former record of 37.5, set in 1972.
In terms of temperatures on Wednesday, Brisbane peaked at 31.9 degrees, Amberley in Ipswich hit 36, Beaudesert in the Scenic Rim reached 35.8, and Gatton in the Lockyer Valley had a top of 39.4.
Elsewhere, Miles in the Western Downs hit 42.9 degrees, St George in southern Queensland reached 43.7, while Roma and Charleville in central-southern Queensland had a maximum of 44.7.
