‘Inept’ Melbourne gold thief jailed for four years over multi-million dollar heist

A man who staged Victoria’s third-largest gold heist has been sentenced to four years’ jail, after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary, theft and possession of an unregistered firearm.

Karl Kachami walked into Melbourne Gold Company on Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD on April 27 this year, wearing a surgical mask, safety glasses, a broad-brimmed hat and armed with an unloaded pistol.
