There was drama on the high seas off Newcastle, as three men were arrested for attempting to smuggle 1.8 tonnes of cocaine into Australia.
This massive seizure is now the largest in Australia to date, and would have had a potential street value of approximately $850.5 million.
The ABF’s Maritime Border Command combined forces with @AusFedPolice, @NSWPoliceForce and @AusAirForce to locate, track and intercept the drug-filled vessel, in 3.5 metre swells off the NSW coast.
“Australia’s maritime border is vast and criminals think they can exploit that and evade detection, but they are wrong. Criminals should always assume the ABF is nearby and is watching.” – ABF Regional Commander for NSW, Danielle Yannopoulos
