Delayed inner Melbourne project raising questions about iconic builder Grocon
A troubled construction site in Melbourne has raised questions about one of the nation’s most well-known builders.
Grocon has delivered several iconic developments in recent decades, including Melbourne’s casino, Eureka Tower and the Rialto Towers.
The latter two buildings were the tallest in the nation when completed.
But media reports say the company is in financial difficulty, with almost 100 subcontractors on a Collingwood office tower development owed more than $5 million, with invoices months in arears.
Responding in a statement, the company’s media spokesperson said the Collingwood development is ongoing.
“Work is continuing on Grocon’s Northumberland project at Collingwood,” they said.
