The suburb of Windsor was named after Queen Victoria’s home, Windsor Castle. Lutwyche was named after Judge Alfred Lutwyche who built the first house in the area, Kedron Lodge, in 1860. Wooloowin is the Indigenous word for fish. While the Indigenous People did have individual names for various fish species, the collective word for all fish was Wooloowin. The origin of the name Kalinga is uncertain, and may be derived from Kalinjar in India. There is an Aboriginal word “Ngalinnga” meaning belonging to us, but whether they used it to describe this area is unknown.
