As the weather warms up, Matt Preston says it’s time to think differently about dining out (literally)… All hail the picnic rug and park barbecue.

OK, I’m calling it early: This is officially the year of alfresco dining. Thanks to the virus being more likely to spread indoors than out, we’ve seen restrictions on in-home gatherings and indoor restaurant dining, and a consequent re-celebration of meeting and eating alfresco – whether at an outdoor eatery, the local park or by the beach. 

But this is not without its challenges – just watch those trendy micro herbs get whisked off the plate with the slightest breeze. So, here’s my pick of…
