Black people are twice as likely as white people to be infected by the coronavirus but are not at increased risk of dying or needing intensive care.
The statistics come from the most comprehensive study to date about Covid-19 and ethnicity, based on pooled data from more than 18 million people taking part in 50 studies.
Those from Asian backgrounds were 1.5 times more likely to be infected than those from white backgrounds, according to the research.
