Afternoon storms may bring giant hail and flash flooding on Queensland election day, BOM warns
Severe thunderstorms with giant hail, damaging winds and flash flooding are predicted to hit some areas in Central and South-East Queensland later today, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) says.
Key points:
- Severe thunderstorms are possible along and east of Queensland’s Great Dividing Range, BOM says
- Hail in excess of 2 centimetres is possible along with damaging wind gusts in excess of 90kph
- The storms are expected to move out of South-East Queensland later this evening
Clouds formed in the eastern Darling Downs this morning and are expected to travel east and develop into severe thunderstorms in the early to mid-afternoon and into the evening.
