Counting continues as Queensland’s election hits crunch time

Former deputy premier Jackie Trad loses her seat of South Brisbane, the Labor party edge ahead and the One Nation vote collapses with more than 40 per cent of the vote is counted in the Queensland state election.

With 67 per cent of the vote counted, Ms Trad’s Greens challenger Amy MacMahon has picked up 55 per cent of the vote.

“The Greens on those numbers will finish higher on first preferences than Jackie Trad which makes it nearly impossible for her to win,” ABC chief election analyst Antony Green said.

Green said around 330,000 postal votes and 925,000 pre-poll votes would be counted tonight.

“We’re going to have a rush [of early figures], a plateau, and then the votes will start to go up again,” he said.
