The Australian share market has got off to a slow start but the local currency has surged as Americans have voted in the US presidential election.
Key points:
- The Dow Jones is up 2.1pc, the S&P 500 is up 1.8pc and the Nasdaq is up 1.9pc
- The Australian dollar has surged by more than 1 US cent overnight to 72 US cents
- The FTSE 100 is up 2.3pc, the DAX is up 2.6pc, and the CAC 40 is up 2.4pc
The ASX 200 opened slightly higher then slipped into the red before regaining ground.
