US investor Ares bids for AMP – The Australian Financial Review
The California-based private equity and credit investment giant is in talks to buy the Australian wealth manager.
It would be a huge and contrarian move by Ares, which has $US179 billion ($252 billion) in assets globally across its private equity, credit, real estate and special situations investments divisions.
Ares is a big name in global capital markets but is little known in Australia. The group was founded in 1997 by dealmakers who previously worked for Apollo Global Management.
