Huge new healthy coral reef found off Australia

Australian scientists have found a free-standing coral reef on the Great Barrier Reef that exceeds the height of the Empire State Building and the Eiffel Tower, according to the Schmidt Ocean Institute, the first such discovery in over 100 years. The blade-like reef is almost 500 meters high and 1.5 kilometers wide, said the institute founded by former Google boss Eric Schmidt and his wife Wendy.
It is 40 m below the sea surface and approximately 6 km from the edge of the Great Barrier Reef.
