Part-refunds for cancelled travel is OK, says ACCC – The Australian Financial Review
Travel agents do not have to give full refunds for trips cancelled because of COVID-19 and can withhold reasonable costs incurred, the regulator rules
“It’s not our position that in all circumstances there has to be a full refund provided to consumers,” she told the House of Representatives economics committee.
“Terms and conditions often do allow for the withholding of deductions, commissions or labour costs as long as it is reasonable and appropriate.”
In May the ACCC forced Flight Centre to stop charging customers hundreds of dollars in cancellation fees in order to get a refund for travel cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
