Scientists have devised an approach to block a protein that the novel coronavirus uses to cut and deactivate key components of the immune system and make copies of itself. This could lead to new drugs against COVID-19. Researchers, including those at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) in the United States, developed two molecules that inhibit the scissors molecular enzyme used by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2-PLpro.
