The 5c coin that could be worth $200 – Yahoo Finance Australia
The next time you receive change, consider the coins’ details. You could be holding shrapnel that’s worth hundreds.
Australians with five cent coins minted in 1972 could be holding onto hundreds of dollars, according to the Royal Australian Mint.
Thats because there were only 8.3 million 5c pieces minted in that year. However, there were 39.5 million 5c pieces minted in 1971 and 48.8 million minted in 1973.
And in 1976 the number of 5c pieces minted climbed to 115 million.
Coin collector Brad Sanders recently highlighted this anomaly, after he found that he couldnt find any 5c pieces from that year.
