A standard test that assesses blood cells can identify which patients who are admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 face a high risk of becoming critically ill and dying. Another 3.5 percent, at least, carry a specific kind of genetic mutation. Those spike-protein antibodies include neutralizing antibodies, which block the coronavirus from infecting cells.
