NBN’s new plan for faster internet is welcome, but long overdue and over budget – ABC News
The decision to upgrade NBN access for millions of Australians is a welcome decision for consumers, the organisation itself and for an economy in the middle of a recession. The question is, why has it taken so long, asks Ian Verrender.

You have to feel sorry for anyone who, in desperation, called up the NBN in the past year or so to get a fibre-optic cable run into their premises.
Until yesterday, according to the outfit’s website, you had to fork out $330 (including GST) just to organise a quote on how much it would cost.
What the NBN has delivered
The technology mix now being used to roll out the National Broadband Network means some users are getting fast speeds and reliable service, while others are not.
