Gig venue planning protections a ‘game-changer’ for live music – The Age
The planning policy shake-up comes as the Victorian government names 106 live music venues that will share $9 million in grants to help them reopen as COVID-19 restriction ease.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley said the planning policy would allow councils to identify significant live music precincts and consider the social, economic and cultural importance of concert venues as they make decisions on planning permits.
When a site that is home to a live music venue is slated for redevelopment, “councils will have strengthened power to protect the music venue as part of any new proposal”, a government statement said.
