The Western Bulldogs needed to beat Fremantle to take the last spot up for grabs in the top eight. Lose, and the Bulldogs missed the finals and Melbourne made it.

The win will look easy on the scoreboard but the Dogs had to defend desperately in the second half to keep Freo at bay.
They also had to respond to a slow start to eventually get their run and handball going.
