‘Public interest journalism is important’: Government gives AAP $5m – Sydney Morning Herald
Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said Australian Associated Press was critical to the ongoing existence of regional news.

Industry sources indicated the entity was already low on cash and had warned the government it would go broke before the end of the year without additional funding, which is coming from the PING program. AAP also launched a crowd-funding campaign two weeks ago to generate cash.
