‘It’s happening’: digging begins at Adani’s $2b Carmichael mine – The Australian Financial Review
Indian company Adani has defied the naysayers and starting digging its controversial Carmichael coal mine in Central Queensland, with exports to start next year.

The bulk of the contracts have gone to Queensland-based companies, which have not been hindered by the state’s border closures, and new workers include hospitality workers from coastal cities who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Adani’s proposed coal mine in the Galilee Basin has been the lightning rod for anti-fossil fuel and environmental activists for years and was thrust into the national spotlight during last year’s federal election.
