Messi voted Barcelona captain by teammates – The World Game
Lionel Messi will wear the captain’s armband for Barcelona again this season after being voted in by teammates.
The Argentine superstar was voted the dressing room leader despite his attempts to move away in recent weeks. He opted to stay in the end.
“Messi’s quality speaks for itself,” said coach Ronald Koeman.
Barcelona beat Nastic Tarragona in their first friendly of the pre-season on Saturday with Messi leading the team.
Barcelona defeated the third-tier side 3-1 with goals from Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho.
It was Messi’s first appearance of the season.
