Latest NHS data shows cities and large towns are seeing a spike in coronavirus cases

Coronavirus cases are continuing to increase rapidly in Birmingham, today’s NHS data shows.
And the city is not alone. Cases are rising in cities and major towns across the North and Midlands.
Birmingham had 557 cases in a week, giving an infection rate of 48.8 cases per 100,000 people. This is an increase of 74% in just one week (if cases increase by 100% then it means they have doubled).
Just two weeks ago, the case rate in Birmingham was 24.6 cases per 100,000 people.
