Leeds has a much higher rate of new STI cases than the national average
The number of diagnosed cases of gonorrhoea and herpes has risen by almost 40 per cent in Leeds, according to latest figures.
Public Health England (PHE) who is urging people to practise safe sex and the correct use of condoms, said there were 9,780 new STI cases diagnosed in the city in 2019.
In Leeds, these figures are up from 8,657 in 2018 and the highest number seen since 2012 when the figures began.
