70 orcas target young blue whale in four-hour killing orgy off WA coast

That is how marine scientist Kirsty Brown summed up how up to 70 orcas hunted and killed a blue whale off Western Australia’s southern coast over several hours on Tuesday.
It is one of just a few times an orca predation of the ocean giant has been witnessed.
Multiple pods joined forces to take down the juvenile blue whale at the Bremer Canyon — a marine hotspot about 50km off the coast.
“We saw nature in all its glory, the harsh and the beautiful,” Ms Brown wrote in a blog about the incident, witnessed by scientists and tourists aboard Naturaliste Charters Bremer tour boat.
