1990 cabinet documents reveal the destruction of documents and Queensland’s failed push for daylight savings

It was the year Queenslanders turned their backs on an era plagued by corruption scandals — ending three decades of conservative government.

Former premier Wayne Goss and his Labor government had been elected in a landslide victory in December 1989, and got to work on an ambitious reform agenda.

It was widely agreed, even by the outgoing Nationals premier, Russell Cooper, that corruption had been the reason for their defeat.
