The first complete dinosaur skeleton ever identified has finally been studied in detail and found its place in the dinosaur family tree, completing a project that began more than a century and a half ago.

Victorian England, some 150 years ago, was thrilled by the discovery of large bones emerging from its rocky outcrops. The bones, belonging to the world’s largest land animals ever, inspired British anatomist Richard Owen to name them dinosaurs, meaning terrible lizards, as he recognized some anatomical similarities to modern reptiles.
