Victorian England, some 150 years ago, was thrilled by the discovery of large bones emerging from its rocky outcrops. The bones, belonging to the world’s largest land animals ever, inspired British anatomist Richard Owen to name them dinosaurs, meaning terrible lizards, as he recognized some anatomical similarities to modern reptiles.
