’Tis the season for Thanksgiving and in the spirit of gratitude Matt Preston has more than a few things he’s thankful for. First up: take a bow, farmers.

As the US gears up for Thanksgiving on 28 November, here are the things I think we need to be thankful for.

Farmers 
We should give thanks for farmers and, by extension, farmers’ markets, growers, producers and makers – anyone who puts food on our table. Simply put, without them we’d go hungry. Thank you for the early mornings, the long days and your resilience in the face of every climatic crisis. Thank you for domesticating animals so I no longer have to go out hunting for my dinner.
