Refugees like Sadaf have escaped violence but are more likely to be victims of bullying in Australia

When Sadaf arrived in Australia as a refugee at the age of six, one of the first things she noticed was “a big kind of safe feeling”.

“Growing up in Afghanistan, we couldn’t really go outside without having a man [accompany us],” she said.

“So the first time I came here and could go outside, there was so much freedom.

“I could run off from my parents’ house, and I wouldn’t be caught by people holding guns.

“It felt really good, just knowing that I was safe. Like I had nothing to worry about.”
