New feature in the energy spectrum of the strongest particles in…

Researchers from the University of Delaware are part of the collaboration to study cosmic rays. In addition to Cherenkov detector tanks filled with water, the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina has a second type of cosmic ray catcher fluorescence detectors. The charged particles in an air shower with cosmic rays interact with atmospheric nitrogen and emit ultraviolet light through a process called fluorescence that is invisible to the human eye but not to this optical detector.
